Francisco Neves Trio – Kenny Wheeler

Francisco Neves, André Pepe e Ale Damasceno apresentam-se em trio, para interpretar temas do repertório do compositor e trompetista canadiano Kenny Wheeler. 

Kenny Wheeler foi um versátil compositor que escreveu música para grandes e pequenos ensembles de jazz. Publicou vários discos através da aclamada editora ECM, como “Gnu High” (1975), “Music for Large & Small Ensembles” (1990) e “Angel Song” (1997), e colaborou com nomes incontornáveis do panorama jazzístico como Keith Jarrett, Bill Frisell, Dave Holland, Lee Konitz e Norma Winston.

Este trio propõe-se ao desafio de traduzir alguns dos temas do compositor para uma formação reduzida na qual a guitarra assume uma posição central como instrumento melódico e harmónico, procurando conservar o sabor volátil e quase-impressionista das composições de Wheeler.

Francisco Neves, André Pepe and Ale Damasceno perform as a trio to interpret songs from the repertoire of the canadian composer and trumpeter Kenny Wheeler.

Kenny Wheeler was a versatile composer who wrote music for jazz ensembles. He published several albums through the acclaimed label ECM, such as “Gnu High” (1975), “Music for Large & Small Ensembles” (1990) and “Angel Song” (1997) and collaborated with important names in the jazz scene such as Keith Jarrett, Bill Frisell, Dave Holland, Lee Konitz and Norma Winston.

This trio sets itself the challenge of translating some of the composer’s themes into a reduced formation in which the guitar assumes a central position as a melodic and harmonic instrument, seeking to preserve the volatile and almost-impressionistic flavor of Wheeler’s compositions.
