Pedro Madaleno Super Power Trio – Homenagem a Ahmad Jamal

Um projecto do guitarrista e compositor Pedro Madaleno.
Após 25 anos a tocar juntos, o trio resolveu fazer uma homenagem ao pianista dos pianistas de jazz, o génio Ahmad Jamal, detentor dos melhores arranjos para piano trio da história do jazz, o pianista preferido de Miles Davis que o convidou vária vezes para tocar com ele, mas Ahmad Jamal nunca aceitou, dado o sucesso do seu trio já em 1956.

Pedro foi um ‘habituée’ dos concertos de Ahmad Jamal em New York no final dos anos 80, e desde aí que nunca mais deixou de ouvir o grande pianista, tocou alguns dos seus temas e usou também esta influência em centenas de arranjos que fez para ”small ensemble”.
O trio apresenta temas históricos de Ahmad Jamal, com ritmos frenéticos e contagiantes, que revelam o universo mágico deste compositor pianista, com uma forte influência da Soul Music, Motown e Funk, soberbamente misturados num idioma de jazz clássico.

Pedro Madaleno Super Power Trio – Tribute to Ahmad Jamal
Synopsis —> A project by guitarist and composer Pedro Madaleno.
After 25 years of playing together, the trio decided to pay tribute to the pianist of pianists in jazz, the genius Ahmad Jamal, the master behind the greatest piano trio arrangements in the history of jazz, and Miles Davis’ favorite pianist. Miles invited him several times to play together, but Ahmad Jamal never accepted, given the success of his own trio as early as 1956.

Pedro was a regular at Ahmad Jamal’s concerts in New York in the late 1980s, and since then he has never stopped listening to the great pianist. He played some of his pieces and also drew on this influence for hundreds of arrangements he created for small ensembles.
The trio presents historical pieces by Ahmad Jamal, with frenetic and infectious rhythms that reveal the magical universe of this pianist-composer, strongly influenced by Soul Music, Motown, and Funk—superbly blended into the language of classic jazz.
